The most detailed life cycle analysis of food waste ever offers eye-popping revelations copy

πŸ—‘οΈ AgFunder wrote a nice article about our new #foodwaste estimates, and I really like that they highlighted the (very small) amount of surplus food that ends up being donated – less than 2%! And that's despite the fact that 80% of that surplus total is edible food that many people desperately need. (The latest estimates from USDA put the number of Americans facing #foodinsecurity at around 1 in 10, and many of those are children.)

There are a number of reasons for this – ranging from not enough food getting to food banks on one end to too much of it overwhelming their capacity on the other. But food donation is a critical part of reducing food waste, which is why ReFED named "Strengthen Food Rescue" as one of the key action areas in our "Roadmap to 2030."
