The Great Green Wall: A Success Story in Land Restoration and Climate Change Mitigation

🌍 Good news - The Great Green

πŸ— Wall is progressing with over 15 million acres restored, mainly in Ethiopia.

The Great Green wall is a huge restoration project aiming at regenerating 8000km of land.

To prevent further desert spreading out from the Sahara, in Africa.

Over 15 million acres of land has been restored, mainly in Ethiopia, which has protected almost 60% of all land in the project so far.

With an ambition to regenerate a total of 100 million acres, storing 250 million tonnes of CO2, offering food security to many millions of Africans in the region.

TBH - The project has taken time to get underway since 2008. Lessons taken from planting in difficult terrain, with uptake from many nations often lacking.

HOWEVER, with funding pledges increased from 2 billion to 20 billion, and following the success of the first few nations, many more are now getting involved.

8 years. Another 85 million acres. Let's go!
