FOOD WASTE TRANSPARENCY NOW!

FOOD WASTE TRANSPARENCY NOW!

🚨 I was quoted by the Grocer for Feedback - calling on UK gov to act to make it compulsory for all large/medium businesses to publicly report their food waste: “We have over a decade’s evidence to show voluntary reporting doesn’t work" - for instance "no reliable UK-wide data exists at all for on-farm food waste,” said Feedback senior policy and campaigns manager Martin Bowman (and there's been no accurate data on hospitality/food service food waste since 2011, and barely any businesses reporting publicly in manufacturing sector either).

“The government’s claims to be a global leader in food waste are absurd when we don’t even know how much food waste exists.

“Its shambolic handling of food waste is an absolute scandal – after delivering its consultation on mandatory food waste reporting a full three years late, nine months have now passed since the consultation closed with no timeline for a response in sight.”

Feedback is calling for mandatory food waste reporting for all medium and large food businesses, including on farms. We wrote to the Secretary of State for Defra to ask them why they still haven't published a response to their consultation on this. Watch this space for more from Feedback on this! (and in the meantime please do message me if you're a UK-based org who'd like to come out in support of mandatory food waste reporting)
